The Byers Telephone Company originated in October of 1917 to provide telephone service to rural Colorado towns and residents. In 1939, it was reorganized and incorporated as the Byers Cooperative Telephone Association, with subscriber-owned lines and equipment. In 1959, the Company was again reorganized as Bijou Telephone Cooperative Association. At that time, the company acquired subscriber-owned lines and began to provide maintenance services to subscribers. In 1976, Bijou Telephone Co-op acquired the Deer Trail exchange and renovations on that exchange were completed later.
In the late 1990's, Bijou Telephone Co-op expanded its offerings to include dial-up Internet service. At that time a subsidiary was formed, Eastern Colorado Independent Networks (ECIN), which later began to deliver DSL and high-speed fixed wireless Internet services to neighboring towns.
Today we continue to provide local phone service to Byers and Deer Trail Colorado and provide Internet service for 60 miles along the I-70 corridor.
